Wrought Iron in the Cellar!

Hello everyone!  This is an important week.  We are off to VOTE tomorrow.  Mark is very busy completing a custom job this week and I am very busy with my new job, and it could be so easy to just not go and say that our votes don't really count.  But we are not going to do that.  We will be getting up early tomorrow to get to our polling place before life takes over!  We usually run around at the end of the day and rush out to vote, but we're trying this new technique this year!  Sophia has already voted absentee!  Her first Presidential election!  Very exciting!  So get out and VOTE tomorrow!

On the wrought iron wine rack front, we often get questions about how our racks hold up in a cellar environment.  Wine cellars are strange places.  Proper wine storage requires low temperatures and high humidity.  It is not an environment that is easy to find.  Deep cellar caves provide the perfect environment, but not everyone has access to that!  So wine cellars that are built in homes need to have both some type of refrigeration as well as some type of humidification.

Mark has had years and years of experience with wine cellar environments.  He has designed our wrought iron wine racks to work perfectly under these conditions.  Our wrought iron wine racks are carefully primed and then covered with our hand applied patina.  Priming the pieces prevents any possibility of rust formation.  As an extra benefit, the patina itself has a rust inhibitor included.  The result is that our wrought iron wine racks will not rust at all, even in the unusual environment of a wine cellar!

Wrought Iron Wine Rack Designer

Old World Wine Rack Designs offers the beauty, elegance and uniqueness of master-crafted wrought iron wine racks for the discerning wine collector. Our wine racks are used as a key architectural element in the creation of incredible European style wine cellars. If you already have an existing cellar you may want to use one or more of our racks as a centerpiece to enhance the look of your existing wine cellar. For those who do not have room for a wine cellar some of our racks are often used as an addition to an existing home furniture decor. We are able to produce wine racks to accommodate the needs of any size wine collection, from a few hundred bottles to several thousand bottles. Our wrought iron wine racks are also considered by many to be heirloom pieces.

Owner and metalsmith Mark Lessard traveled extensively in Europe in the mid-90's developing design concepts based on historic wine cellars in France and Italy. While in Europe, he studied the design styles and materials used to store wines from the chateaus of Bordeaux to the centuries old wine cellars in Burgundy, Rhone and Champagne. The wine racks he has designed have a European style and aged appearance reminiscent of an older era.
Experience

Throughout his career, Mark Lessard has been involved with all aspects of wine collecting for some of the country's largest wine collectors. Mark provided wine services for these private clients which included wine acquisition, wine cellar and wine rack design as well as wine cellar management. After retiring from his wine consulting business, Mark spent a number of years studying the art of metal working first as a hobby and later becoming a passion and a way to produce the type of wine racks that he had always envisioned. All of this experience is found in the design and functionality of his wine racks.

Wrought Iron Versus Wood

Although wood racking is prevalent in American wine cellar design, it is not the traditional method of storage.  Wood racking loses most of its value upon purchase while handcrafted wrought iron racks will appreciate in value over time.  Wrought iron also helps maintain the cool temperature of a wine cellar.  If your cellar design includes the use of wrought iron rather than wood, you will feel as if you are in Tuscany or Burgundy when you pass through the door and your guests will experience the charm, uniqueness and beauty of an old world wine cellar.

We are happy to announce that we will be exhibiting at the Saratoga Rotary Homeshow March 2 - 3. Be sure to stop by our booth to experience the unique beauty of wrought iron.
